President's Message

Dear SCCHA Members,

August reminds me just how much this club accomplishes when we come together. Whether we're introducing someone to their very first horse, helping a fellow rider, or simply sharing a meal around the clubhouse, every event is another opportunity to strengthen our equestrian community.

Volunteers Still Needed – 82nd Santa Clara County Fair

Our participation in the 82nd Santa Clara County Fair is almost here, and it's not too late to join our volunteer team! This marks our third year hosting the SCCHA Horse Exhibit, and we couldn't be more excited to once again introduce thousands of visitors to the wonderful world of horses. Our exhibit features live horses, educational displays highlighting SCCHA's history and current programs, and countless opportunities for the public to interact with our equine ambassadors. Every year we meet families who have never touched a horse before or seen a horse live “in person”, and seeing the excitement on their faces reminds us why this outreach is so important.

The Fair also provides one of our best opportunities to advocate for the protection and preservation of our rural ranch lands and equestrian heritage. Every conversation we have helps tell the story of why horses continue to matter in Santa Clara County.

Volunteer shifts have been shortened this year to make it easier for more members to participate:

• Wednesday & Thursday: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM

• Friday, Saturday & Sunday: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Whether you can volunteer for one shift or several, we'd love to have you on the team. If you have questions or would like to sign up, please call, text, or email Rachael Parakh at (408) 242-2654 or rachael.parakh@gmail.com.

August General Meeting – Guest Speaker

Please join us on Friday, August 21, for our monthly General Meeting. We're excited to welcome Donna Poy, organizer of Day of the Horse, as our guest speaker. If you've ever been curious about this unique equestrian event, you won't want to miss her presentation. The Day of the Horse celebration attracts nearly 2,000 people to Woodside each year on the weekend of the second Saturday in October. Donna will share what makes this progressive trail ride such a memorable experience and why it has become a favorite tradition for so many riders. Whether you've participated before or are considering attending for the first time, you'll leave inspired and ready to add it to your riding calendar.

Fourth 5D Play Day – August 23

Our fourth and final 5D Play Day of the season will be held on Sunday, August 23. This is your last opportunity to qualify for the 5D Buckle Show coming up in September. If you've already participated in one Play Day, this is your chance to earn your second qualifying ride. Whether you're competing or cheering from the sidelines, these events continue to showcase the encouragement, sportsmanship, and sense of community that make SCCHA so special.

Looking Ahead

As summer begins to wind down, we're already looking forward to a busy fall filled with the Buckle Show, Gaited Horse Show, Open House, and many more opportunities to ride, volunteer, and enjoy one another's company. Thank you for continuing to make SCCHA such a welcoming place. Every volunteer hour, every horse brought to an event, every new member welcomed, and every conversation with the public helps strengthen our mission and ensures our equestrian traditions continue for generations to come.

I hope to see many of you at the Fair, at our General Meeting, and cheering on our riders at the final Play Day.

Happy trails,

Tami Moore, SCCHA President

• TIME FOR THE COUNTY FAIR •

Help us bring horses to the public!

Many of you have helped us offer "a horse experience" at The Santa Clara County Fair the last two years. The Fair is SO grateful to have horses available for the public to meet, groom, and feed – that's why they set aside a special section just for us. Our horse exhibit includes 4 corrals and two tables to display our history and current events. Volunteers assist with horse interactions and talk with visitors about our association. I've included a few photos below so you can see all the fun!

This year promises the same great opportunity to meet the public and introduce them to horses - some for the very first time! It's also an incredible venue to advocate for the protection and preservation of our rural ranch land and our club's 4th Annual Fall Festival Open House (Saturday, October 3rd). The Fair will run from August 19th-23rd. Check out their website for more details.

Volunteer shifts have shortened so that some of you can stay the whole time. 4-8pm on Wednesday and Thursday. 1-5pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Text, call or email me with any questions or to join our team!

Let's do this!
