Dear SCCHA Members, July is one of my favorite months of the year, and not just because it’s my birthday month. While there is no General Meeting this month, there are still plenty of opportunities to get involved, represent SCCHA, and spend time with fellow horse enthusiasts. 5D Play Day – July 19 Our summer competition season continues with the third 5D Play Day of the year on Sunday, July 19. Whether you're competing, volunteering, or cheering from the stands, these events are always a great way to spend a day at the club. As a reminder, riders must participate in at least two of the four 5D Play Days to be eligible for a buckle at our culminating Buckle Show on September 19. If you've only attended one Play Day so far, July is the perfect opportunity to secure your eligibility. Volunteers Needed – 82nd Santa Clara County Fair We are very excited to once again participate in the 82nd Santa Clara County Fair. This year marks our third year hosting an equine exhibit, and it continues to be one of our most rewarding outreach opportunities. Our exhibit includes four horse corrals and two display tables showcasing the history of SCCHA and the many ways horses continue to enrich our community. What makes this event so special is the opportunity to meet the public. More than 80,000 people attend the County Fair, and many visitors will have the chance to meet a horse for the very first time. Volunteers help facilitate horse interactions, answer questions about horses and horsemanship, and share information about SCCHA and our mission. The Fair is also an incredible venue to advocate for the protection and preservation of our rural ranch lands and equestrian lifestyle. Every conversation helps build awareness and appreciation for the role horses continue to play in Santa Clara County. If you are interested in volunteering, bringing a horse, helping with setup, or participating in the parade, please contact Rachael Parakh at (408) 242-2654. We would love to have you join the team. Looking Ahead Even without a General Meeting this month, there is plenty happening behind the scenes as we prepare for a busy late summer and fall season. Between the County Fair, Play Days, the upcoming Buckle Show, and our continued planning efforts, there are many opportunities to get involved and make a difference. GREAT NEWS! Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) has signed the contract with Friends of Bear Creek Stables - after raising $250,000 and securing adequate insurance for programming and volunteers. It will be a phenomenal outdoor education facility where the benefits of both nature and horses will be discovered by all ages, abilities and economic levels. Check out their updated website. |
July 18. Line Dancing with Sydney. There will be a live band. $3 for Members, $5 for non-Members to attend. Come join the fun. We'll be camping too, July 17-19 ,if folks want to join hanging out.

• TIME FOR THE COUNTY FAIR • Many of you have helped us offer 'a horse experience' at The Santa Clara County Fair the last two years. The Fair is SO grateful to have horses available for the public to meet, groom, and feed – that's why they set aside a special section just for us. Our horse exhibit includes 4 corrals and two tables to display our history and current events. Volunteers assist with horse interactions and talk with visitors about our association. I've included a few photos below so you can see all the fun! This year promises the same great opportunity to meet the public and introduce them to horses - some for the very first time! It's also an incredible venue to advocate for the protection and preservation of our rural ranch land and our club's 4th Annual Fall Festival Open House (Saturday, October 3rd). The Fair will run from August 19th-23rd. Check out their website for more details. Volunteer shifts have shortened so that some of you can stay the whole time. 4-8pm on Wednesday and Thursday. 1-5pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This is a handmade quilt. It is stunning. The drawing will be held on the day of the October Fall Festival.
June Playday As usual, Yvonne Lee put on a great Playday at our show grounds. Yvonne judged and, along with many volunteers, registered entrants, set up each event, manned the gate, and switched out the patterns so the riders could safely compete. Remember, the participants have their eye on the shiny BUCKLE at the end of the summer and must participate in at least 2 of our events prior to the Buckle show in September. |

Last month, we mentioned the annual Horse Expo, and an intrepid group of 4 members road-tripped up for the day. There were lots of great demonstrations and horse breeds to admire and pet. One purpose of the SCCHA is to foster interactions with members and our horse communities so we should feel free to reach out to friends you've met at the general meetings to experience some of the activities we have around us. It's fun! Here, I am sharing a fun-sounding August activity possibly of interest to members as well as our selfie in front of the big Horse Expo shopping pavilion.

June 19, 2026 CTO at 8:05 PM by Tami Moore. Tami thanked Mary Shapiro for preparing dinner, and Liz and Jennifer for making the side dishes. She also thanked Chris Monahan for filling in for Amy Monahan at the bar. Stephen gave the Pledge of Allegiance. TREASURER’S REPORT: Yvonne read the May 2026 Treasurer Report. (see Treasurer’s report) EVENTS: Yvonne reminded us that this Sunday is our second 5D Playday. Other Playdays this summer are: July 19 August 23 September 19. Must ride 2 out of 4 shows to qualify for the buckle. Kathleen reported on July 18, Sydney will do another line dancing evening with a live band. PUBLIC RELATIONS: Rachael spoke about the following: This weekend Liz, Jennifer and Rachael will be going to Saratoga Gap, and we will have a table event. The County Fair is August 19-23; there may be tents for us for our horses. Stephen mentioned that some of the 4-H show youth will not be at the fair, rather at Thoresons, early in July 27 through August 1. Our Open House is coming up in October 3, please put it on your calendar. Stephen asked about the 4th of July Parade in Morgan Hill. If anyone is interested in riding, please contact Yvonne. ANNOUNCEMENTS: Stephen announced they are holding a “Parade De-sensitization Clinic” at Lone Oak, tomorrow, June 20, starting at 1:00. This is good practice for a parade. Stephen asked that you let them know if you are planning to attend. Their Halloween show will be October 10, a horse show, with a costume contest to follow. Stephen also mentioned the next Robbie Potter clinic will be the 20-21 of November. Tami updated us on the Rose Parade. The application went in on Monday, complete with a photo of people that want to participate. So far 9 riders, 2 walkers and people helping with transportation. Margarite will be moving away, a fond farewell to her. Liz announced that Drill Team will begin practicing, the dates will be on our Facebook page. The Drill Team performance will be at our Open House in October. Please see Liz if you are interested. Michelle Celsi said if anyone needs a Membership application, please see her. GUESTS: Stephanie and Fabiola Lopez, guests of Marian Honeymen Kristin Perrin, guest of Kayla Hall Shimon, guest of Katheen Horse and human birthday prize offerings were given out by Rachael. Volunteer Corner & Donations
Firstly, a shout-out to Mary Shapiro, who was the Chef for the June General Meeting. She made barbecued chicken, home-made coleslaw, and the best brownies you have ever had. It was fantastic and the club really appreciates her volunteering for it! There are ample opportunities to volunteer for our activities. Check here frequently as more activities show up in the summer.
