President's Message

Dear SCCHA Members,

One of my favorite things about this time of year is seeing our club in action. The days are longer, the trailers are rolling in, the arena is busy, and everywhere you look there are members enjoying time with their horses and each other.

SCCHA Scholarship Program

One of the most important things we do as an organization is invest in the future of our equestrian community. The goal of the SCCHA Scholarship Program is simple: to keep the equestrian community alive and well by nurturing and supporting our young equestrians.

Scholarship applicants must:

Be an active SCCHA member for at least one year

Be an active SCCHA member for at least one year

Be graduating from high school in the same year they apply

Be accepted or enrolled in a higher education program following graduation

To apply, students must submit an essay by June 30 describing their future goals and aspirations. We encourage all eligible graduating seniors to apply. We are proud to support young people who share our passion for horses, community, and lifelong learning.

151st Annual Morgan Hill Fourth of July Parade

One of our longest-standing traditions is participating in the Morgan Hill Fourth of July Parade, and this year marks the 151st Annual Parade. Every year, our members proudly ride through downtown Morgan Hill, showcasing the beauty of our horses and helping keep our equestrian traditions alive and visible in our community.

If you would like to ride in the parade, please contact Yvonne Lee at (408) 203-1795 by phone or text as soon as possible so we can finalize our participation plans.

This year's parade is especially important for anyone interested in participating in the Rose Parade on January 1, 2027. As many of you know, SCCHA is exploring the opportunity to represent our organization on one of the biggest stages in the equestrian world.

If you plan to ride in the Rose Parade and have never ridden with our unit before, participation in the Morgan Hill Parade is required. This is both a safety requirement for our group and a requirement of the Rose Parade organizers, who require riders to have experience participating in at least one large-scale parade. Riding in a parade environment is very different from trail riding or arena riding, and we want both our horses and riders to be prepared for success. Please contact Tami Moore at (408) 772-9016 by phone or text for more information.

5D Play Day #2 – June 21

The first Play Day of the season brought great competition, supportive sportsmanship, and plenty of fun. We look forward to seeing familiar faces and welcoming new participants for another exciting day in the arena. Reminder: Riders must participate in at least two of our four Play Days to be eligible for a buckle at the culminating Buckle Show on September 19. If you're hoping to compete for a buckle, now is the perfect time to get your second qualifying ride on the calendar.

Happy trails,

Tami Moore, SCCHA President

• TIME FOR THE COUNTY FAIR •

Help us bring horses to the public!

Many of you have helped us offer 'a horse experience' at The Santa Clara County Fair the last two years. The Fair is SO grateful to have horses available for the public to meet, groom, and feed – that's why they set aside a special section just for us. Our horse exhibit includes 4 corrals and two tables to display our history and current events. Volunteers assist with horse interactions and talk with visitors about our association. I've included a few photos below so you can see all the fun!

This year promises the same great opportunity to meet the public and introduce them to horses - some for the very first time! It's also an incredible venue to advocate for the protection and preservation of our rural ranch land and our club's 4th Annual Fall Festival Open House (Saturday, October 3rd). The Fair will run from August 19th-23rd. Check out their website for more details.

Volunteer shifts have shortened so that some of you can stay the whole time. 4-8pm on Wednesday and Thursday. 1-5pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Text, call or email me with any questions or to join our team!

Let's do this!

Prior Events

Robbie Potter Horsemanship Clinic at SCCHA

We had a sold-out clinic for Robbie Potter, 15 participants, the most we’ve had so far!

We worked on horsemanship and the art of equitation. Robbie also worked on whatever people and horses needed. He always asks what issues you may be experiencing and how to solve them. It’s so important to be able to watch Robbie work with horses and learn what to do to solve them.

Robbie also gave private lessons on both Friday and Monday where he goes to you and helps work through issues you are having.

We had a fun dinner Saturday evening after the clinic where we listened to Robbie’s stories.

We will be hosting Robbie next year May 1 and 2, 2027. We will be doing a trail riding clinic.

Line Dancing with Sydney in May

Great time at the potluck and line dancing at the Santa Clara County Horsemen’s Assoc. Special thanks to Sydney Vdbh for leading the dance scene, and Yvonne Lee for bartending. Here is a little clip made by Tammy Lonardo.
