President's Message

Dear SCCHA Members,

Happy New Year! As I step into my fourth year as your President, I want to thank you for your continued trust, support, and love for this incredible club.

Looking Back on 2025

As I think about this past year, I keep coming back to one word: community. It’s clear that 2025 wasn’t just a busy year, it was a meaningful one. Month after month, SCCHA showed up in ways that truly reflected who we are as an organization: grounded in tradition, open to growth, and deeply connected to our community.

We kicked off the year building momentum with play days that welcomed riders of all ages and experience levels, creating a space where competition was friendly, encouragement was constant, and fun always came first. Those play days weren’t just about making best times and barrels. They were about cheering each other on, helping a nervous rider through their first run, and watching the relationships between horses and their humans grow stronger with every event.

Throughout the spring and summer, we proudly represented SCCHA beyond our gates, riding in parades, hosting public-facing events, and sharing our love of horses with the wider community. From long-standing traditions like the Morgan Hill Fourth of July Parade, to welcoming families and first-time horse lovers at fairs and festivals, we continued our mission of education, outreach, and preserving horses in our valley for generations to come. And there's nothing quite like trotting down Monterey Road with the smell of BBQ in the air and watching your horse try to process in their brain why 1000’s of people are simultaneously waving flags at them (albeit miniature ones).

This past year we gathered for potlucks, camped together under the stars, danced together (sometimes in costumes we may never fully live down) and shared meals that felt more like family dinners than club meetings. Whether it was line dancing lessons, the Austin Powers Halloween Dance Party, or our General Meeting dinners, these moments mattered. They strengthened friendships, helped our new members feel welcomed, and reminded us that our association is as much about people as it is about horses.

2025 ended with some unforgettable highlights. Our Fall Festival Open House welcomed the public in record numbers, showcasing who we are and what we value. 2nd Annual Gaited Horse Show was a huge success (AND I earned my first buckle!). But perhaps most powerfully, SCCHA made a real political impact this year. Many of our members stood up for rural equestrian lifestyle by attending multiple feedback sessions and sharing powerful, personal testimonies about the proposed zoning ordinance. We spoke up for agriculture, for the livelihood of horse owners and small businesses, and for the generations yet to come who deserve to keep this way of life alive. Together, we explained that the proposed zoning ordinance would not support agriculture; it would in fact cause irreparable harm to equine businesses and livelihoods. I’m thrilled to share that our voices were heard and because of our advocacy, the County issued an official Rural Zoning Amendment Reset. That’s no small thing. That’s the power of showing up, standing together, and speaking from the heart. We didn’t just make noise. We made change.

None of this happened by accident. It happened because of volunteers who raised their hands, board members who showed up consistently, and members who believed in what we’re building together. 2025 was a year we can be incredibly proud of, not just for what we did, but how we did it. Thanks to each and every one of you who make our association so special!

Welcoming the 2026 Board

The 2025 Board has officially passed off the reins....and I’m honored to serve alongside our 2026 Board. Some are returning, some are brand new, but all bring their energy, care, and a commitment to carry our work forward. This club is built on 86 years of grit, laughter, tradition, and reinvention, and the trails we ride today were paved by generations of volunteers who believed that horses and community belong together. As I shared at our Installation Dinner: stepping onto the Board means wearing many hats (cowboy, hard hat, party hat…), but more importantly, it means holding space for others to belong. I’m so grateful to each of you for saying yes.

What’s Ahead

In 2026, we'll be rolling out new event dates, continuing member-favorite traditions, and finding more ways to bring people together. So whether you’re a trail regular, a potluck pro, an equive advocate, or just getting back in the saddle, we have a place for you.

May 2026 bring smooth rides, strong friendships, new adventures.....and just enough surprises to keep it memorable.

Happy trails,

Tami Moore, SCCHA President

Installation Dinner and Holiday Party:

What a fun time, socializing, eating, winning silent auction items, and honoring last year's board, honorary members, lifetime members, and bringing in the new year with a new board.

Honorary Members: Pam Robb, Tod Fedde, Gaye Derusso, Seth Whitney, and Shari & Stephen McHenry were awarded Honorary Membership for 2026 for their extraordinary service to our club this past year.

Lifetime Membership:  Sue and John Paquette as well as Butch Kittle earned Lifetime Membership with their 25 year dedication to our association - outstanding!

Silent Auction:  Liz Kehoe and Jennifer Lien- Gonzalez coordinated a fantastic silent auction that garnered $1,729. Our members and community donated items to help raise money for much needed clubhouse stove and airconditioner/heater.  Thank you all for your donations, it made the event super fun.  Gotta say the little horse musical pop-up toy got the most bids...the bidding page had to be flipped over...fun.

Our President: Tami Moore, gave a heart-felt speech that reviewed the events, community culture, and milestones that defined 2025 for SCCHA.  We hope she loves her custom knife, scarf concho, and horseshoe art gifts that are well deserved for her dedication and compassion to the group.

2025-2026 Board:  We thanked our 2025 Board of Directors and John Paquette swore in our new Board for 2026.

Thank you to volunteers who decorated the Hall:  Rachael Parakh, and Linda Carcione, helped transform our hall into a festive wonderland. Snowflake lights dazzled the front trophy case with bows, garlands and poinsettias adding to the warmth.  Yvonne Lee made sure each table was set to welcome our special dinner guests.

Longest attending Member:  Tami Moore gives a big hug to Fran Martarano, our longest attending member. Fran and her husband Joe joined in 1965!

Welcome our newest Members:

Mary Watson

Hello, I had horses "as a kid", growing up in the Santa Cruz Mountains.  I started with a pony , then a grade mare, then an Arabian horse.  30+ years later, I started leasing a horse, just to have a "toe in".  Well I fell for him & bought him!  We just do trail riding for fun.  I joined Santa Clara County Horsemen's mainly because horse people are so enjoyable, and I can always learn more.   I'm looking forward to meeting you all.  Cheers Mary

Anderson Family:

We are the Anderson's—Jon, Jen, Parker, and Mackenzie. For the past few years, we had been searching for the right horse for our daughter to call her own. She participated in several lessons and grew very fond of the horses she worked with. Then, on her last birthday, she finally received her own horse—Bella!

Bella has fit seamlessly into our family, and she and Mackenzie have quickly become best friends. They have already won their first belt buckle and several first-place ribbons, and we are excited to see what the future holds for them.

Thank you for welcoming us into such an amazing community of fellow horse lovers. We are truly grateful to be a part of it.
