President's Message

Dear SCCHA Members,

August is here, and while summer may be winding down, things are heating up at SCCHA! We’ve got a full calendar, a whole lot of horsepower, and the kind of community spirit that makes this association truly special.

81st Annual Santa Clara County Fair – Thank You!

First, a huge thank you to everyone who supported our Horse Exhibit at the 81st County Fair! Our booth was once again a standout feature that was educational, engaging, and a whole lot of fun. We proudly shared our history, talked about current events and programs, and gave hundreds of visitors the chance to meet and interact with our horses.

There’s nothing quite like seeing someone light up when petting a horse for the first time. These are the moments that keep our mission alive, which is connecting people to horses, educating the public, and preserving our equestrian heritage right here in the valley.

To our volunteers: you are the heart of SCCHA. Your time, energy, and good humor make all the difference. Thank you for making our presence at the fair such a success!

August 15–17: A Fun-Filled SCCHA Weekend You Won’t Want to Miss

Mark your calendars, pack your boots, and bring your appetite since August 15–17 is going to be a great weekend:

Friday, August 15 – General Meeting (7:00 PM)

Join us in the clubhouse for updates, planning, and a good old-fashioned catch-up with fellow members.

Saturday, August 16 – Camping, Potluck & Movie Under the Stars

Spend the evening under the stars! Bring a dish to share, your camp chair, and settle in for a relaxing night of food, friends, and a kid-friendly movie on the big screen. Camping overnight is welcome and we encourage you to come early and stay late!

Sunday, August 17 – Final 5D Play Day of the Season

This is your last chance to run barrels, cheer on your friends, and rack up your second event if you're aiming for a buckle at our 5D Buckle Play Day on September 20. Remember: participation in at least two of our four Play Days is required for buckle eligibility! Whether you're riding or watching, the Play Days are a blast and we hope you come out to support.

Looking Ahead Into Fall

As we move toward fall, we’re already preparing for our Buckle Play Day in September, the 2nd Annual Open House on October 4, and the Gaited Horse Show weekend October 17-19. Your participation and enthusiasm are what keep this association thriving. Let’s keep the momentum going!

See you around the grounds and as always, thank you for being part of this incredible community.

Happy trails,

Tami Moore, President

Horsemen's Represents with Booth at Santa Clara County Fair

SCCHA participated again this year at the county fair by representing with a booth that ran July 30- August 3rd. The San Mateo Horsemen's and Friends of Bear Creek also collaborated with booths; and all three organizations were set up right before you entered the main large animal exhibit hall. Several horses and handlers were available to help fair goers groom, pet and feed treats to their new equine friends. It's always such a special experience to have the opportunity to educate the general public on how to respect and interact with horses. We love to give people who maybe have never seen a horse in person, let alone up close, this immersive experience.

It's not too late to purchase raffle tickerts for a chance to win this beautiful quilt donated by John and Susan Paquette! Please join us at our member's dinner and general meeting in August to purchase tickets. The winning ticket will be announced at our buckle show on 9/20/25. You don't need to be present to win. All proceeds benefit our club!

Welcome New Members:

Janice Brown

I got my first pony at 12 years old. Never had lessons, just got on and rode everywhere. As I got older I stopped riding. Years later when my daughter was 8, I got her into riding lessons which sparked my love for horses again.  I got back into riding about 10 years ago. I got Tank, a 17-year-old Palomino, about 7 years ago and he's been a ranch horse all his life. Smudgie, a Blue Roan, is 8 years old. I am his second owner.  He is a foundation quarter horse from Texas. His blood lines o back to Joe Hancock. We do some cattle sorting for fun but mostly camping and trails.

Jennifer Connelly

I have been riding horses with my dad since I was 5 years old.  I love all disciplines including eventing, gymkhana, trail riding, starting young horses and restarting older ones that have hit a hard spot.  Wendy Fedde introduced me to the Santa Clara Horseman's Association.  I instantly fell in love with the people and the mutual passion they share for their horses.  I would like to be a part of this amazing community.  I hope to volunteer and be of service in anyway that is needed. I'm really looking forward  to riding in the 4th of July parade; it's such a beautiful experience with friends and family.

Marla Lane and Robert "Bob" Silva

I’ve served as a judge for years between Horseman’s and Garrods, a few shows at Hollister fairgrounds too! Hoping to do more and maybe take mine in to show them.  Below is a picture of Estaban aka Steve! He is 14 years old and I've had him since birth. He is trained in classical dressage, so I ride him western and do a bit of western dressage. I've had horses since I was 10 years old and started showing when I was eleven.

I've been working with horses for a while now, having leased my own horse through my youth, taking part in competitions and lessons. When my daughters started showing interest in horses we joined a pony co-op taking care of two ponies and I alsoo started taking lessons and am now leasing a horse again. I've been on long trail rides in different counties.
