President's Message

Dear SCCHA Members,

As we transition from the warmth of summer to the crisp days of fall, I’m excited to reflect on the wonderful events we’ve had and to share the exciting activities we have planned for September. This month is filled with opportunities to ride, connect, and celebrate our shared love for horses and our incredible community.

English Schooling Show - Series Finalé on 8/25

August wrapped up with the grand finale of our English Schooling Show Series on August 25th. What an incredible journey this series has been! A huge thank you goes out to Suzy Paulazzo for her inspiration and dedication in creating this series for our English riders. Suzy's vision has brought together riders of all levels, providing them with a platform to learn, grow, and showcase their talents. The finalé was a fitting culmination of all the hard work and enthusiasm our participants have put in, and it was a joy to see the progress and camaraderie that this series has fostered.

Upcoming Costa Campout 8/30-9/2

Looking ahead, we are gearing up for the Costa Campout from August 30th to September 2nd. This campout offers a perfect blend of relaxation, adventure, and fellowship. Whether you're planning to ride the trails, enjoy the serene surroundings, take a dip in the creek, or simply unwind by the campfire, this event promises to be a wonderful way to kick off September and enjoy Labor Day weekend. We look forward to seeing many of you there!

Gaited Horseshow & Playday with Optional Camping 9/6-9/8

Following closely on the heels of the Costa Campout, we have the Gaited Horseshow & Playday from September 6th to 8th. This event is packed with fun and activities, including optional camping, line dancing, poker fun, and a potluck. It's a great opportunity for our gaited horse enthusiasts to showcase their horses and enjoy a weekend of friendly competition and socializing. Whether you’re a competitor or a spectator, this event is sure to be a blast!

New Almaden Jump-In Parade

Another exciting event coming up is the New Almaden Jump-In Parade on September 13th. This annual parade celebrates the founding of New Almaden back in 1845 and is a cherished tradition for our community. We invite all members to join us for the jump-in parade and enjoy a day filled with great food, drinks, music, games, and more. It’s a fantastic way to celebrate our local history while having a great time with fellow members.

Thank you all for your continued support and participation. Here’s to a September full of great rides, good times, and lasting memories!

Warm regards and happy trails,

Tami Moore, President

Events - August & September

Playday  - August 18

Twenty-three participants enjoyed a great Sunday of competition and many qualified to try for a buckle in the upcoming Buckle Show!

English Schooling Show - August 25

We held the last event of this summer's English Series. Thank you so much to all the participants, the volunteers who worked tirelessly to put on the show (Suzy! Cathy!), and to the enthusiastic spectators/supporters!

Gaited Horseshow & Playday:   This is our first gaited horseshow.  We have planned a whole weekend of fun.   Camping 9/6-9/8.  Potluck 9/7.  Poker Fun 9/7. Line Dancing Lessons 9/6 and 9/7. and 9/8 the Finale of the Gaited horseshow and Playday.   Pre-Registration is required for the horseshow and camping.    There are stalls left, otherwise campers need to bring their own equipment (highline, portables, groundtie, tie to trailer....). See the details of these events on the event site. Gaited Horseshow and Playday (Plus Other Events....)

Special thanks to Terry Zygalinski and owner of Gaited Pleasure Horses  as well as Yvonne and Jim Lee (Case de Famalia) for donating 2 of the 6 buckles for the show.

Gaye Derusso of Majestic Riders graciously volunteered her time to judge the show.   Special thanks for her commitment and expertise.

Sydney Vandenbrand, a horse trainer/lessons, is coming back for two nights of leading us in line dancing.  Where else can you go for this fabulous fun for all ages?  She has donated her time and experience to the club and we aren't charging for attendance.  Sweet!  Thank you, Sydney.

The Poker fun will be, you guessed it, super fun!  Bring something nice (used or new) as your 'anti' and get something based on your poker hand ranking.   Also free to play and have fun.   It is kinda like a big white elephant gift exchange - based on your hand.  Super fun, free.  Make it nice by bringing a nice gift for your 'anti' to play.  It could be anything you think someone wants.

Contact Kathleen O'Neill (408) 590-3933 if you have questions or need help.

Costa Camp Out - Labor Day weekend

The Costa Ranch, owned for generations by the same family of SCCHA members, is located in the south eastern foothills of Santa Clara County.  The Costas and their descendants have been inviting the SCCHA to horse-camp at the ranch's "Picnic Grounds" with their families for decades. This year a small group took advantage of the opportunity and spent the long weekend cooking together, swimming in the crystal clear swimming hole, and riding horses on the ranch trails. It was a weekend of memory-making for sure.

TREASURER’S REPORT:  Yvonne gave the July 2024 Treasurer Report.

EVENTS:

The Almaden 4th of July Almaden Lake Fireworks event was a success, our booth had many, many visitors!

The Santa Clara County Fair was a tremendous success!  Rachael reported we met the four goals:

Promote the wonder of horses, advocate for rural ranch land, advertise our open house, and connect resources and organizations. Rachael thanked all that worked at the Fair, rode in the parade, and brought their horses.

This weekend - SCCHA Campout and Potluck - 8/16 - 8/18 and Playday.

The SCCHA English Schooling show will be on August 25.

The SCCHA Gaited Horse Show will be on September 8.  There will be Line Dancing Sept 7th and potluck, and poker fun.

The New Almaden Jump-In Parade will be on September 14.

Labor Day weekend is the Costa Camping, Yvonne requested people email her RSVP.

We will have our second SCCHA Open House on October 12.    All are encouraged to attend.

August birthdays were awarded a treat.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:  Anyone that participated in the survey was entered into our raffle for a free dinner.  The winners were
Marian Honeyman, Tia Smouse, and Sandie Quinones.

Stephen McHenry announced their Lone Oak Halloween show – Fun-O-Ween on October 19.

Cathy Angell talked about boarding horses in our County.   There is a meeting planned for August 24, at the trailhead of Santa Teresa on Fortini, from 9-12, to take feedback from the community.

The Fortini property was purchased by the County – they will own this property; the plan was to connect San Vicente with Calero.  This is an opportunity for equestrians to be able to ride this property.  There may be an opportunity for a boarding facility for horses.

There is a survey; we need people to fill out the survey about horses on the trails.  This will be emailed to our members, on our Instagram as well.

MOTION TO ADJOURN at 8:45 made by Yvonne, seconded by Linda , the motion carried.
