President's Message

Dear Members,

As the days grow longer and the warmth of summer approaches, we are thrilled to share the highlights of an eventful and successful May with you. From a fun-filled campout to exhilarating competitions, May was a month to remember for the Santa Clara County Horsemen’s Association. Here’s a look back at our recent events and a glimpse of what’s to come.

May Campout and Potluck:   We kicked off our eventful weekend with the May Campout and Potluck, which was a resounding success! Members gathered for a weekend of outdoor adventure, trail riding, bonding, and delicious food. The campout provided a wonderful opportunity for riders and their families to connect, relax, and enjoy the great outdoors. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to the potluck, bringing a delightful array of dishes that made our mealtime gatherings extra special.

Derby Day:  Our Derby Day event on May 18 was a fantastic celebration of younger buckaroo equestrian community spirit. This year we introduced a new Derby Day Arts and Crafts segment, where participants created stunning horse-themed crafts and decorations. The creativity on display added a unique and enjoyable element to the festivities.

First 5D Play Day of the Season:  The excitement continued with our first 5D Play Day of the season on May 19. The event saw an impressive turnout, with riders competing in a range of events, including barrel racing and pole bending. The friendly competition and supportive atmosphere highlighted the spirit of our community. We were thrilled to see both familiar faces and new participants join in the fun. Kudos to everyone who competed and to our dedicated team who organized this fantastic event.

Robbie Potter Horsemanship Clinic:  I also wanted to highlight the Robbie Potter Horsemanship Clinic, which took place at Lone Oak Stables in Gilroy. Although the clinic itself was fully booked, many members took advantage of the opportunity to audit the sessions on Saturday and Sunday. Robbie Potter's expertise and teaching were highly appreciated, providing invaluable insights and techniques to enhance our horsemanship skills. The feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, and we are grateful to Robbie for sharing his knowledge and passion with our community.

Stay Connected:  Don’t forget to share your photos and experiences from our events on social media using the hashtag #SCCHA. We love seeing our community in action and celebrating our shared passion for horses.

Thank you for your unwavering support and participation. Here’s to more memorable moments and successful events as we ride into summer!

Warm regards and happy trails,

Tami

Hoof-Beats Derby Days:   Thank you to Sharon Pope for leading the effort....What a fun day.  We had a lot of kids with smiling faces.

Dinner/Meeting:   Thank you Yvonne Lee for cooking up a storm...

Thank you to Michelle Celsi for the wine donation to the club.  We'll be sure to enjoy it at the club dinners!

Camping and Potluck:   Thank you Kathleen O'Neill for hosting these fun events.  It's so nice to come camp for the weekend.  A big group attend the Monthly Meeting/Dinner and ended the weekend attending the playday!   The campers went on a group trail ride, with Kaylee doing her first trail ride by herself.  Her horse Penny is amazing.

5D Playday:   Thank you Yvonne Lee for hosting these fun playdays.  It’s so wonderful to see all the beginners as well as the old timers.  We had the youngest at six and the oldest at 84.  We also had a young cowgirl doing the events by herself (no lead-line).  How truly wonderful.  Remember to qualify to win the buckle for these events in September, you have to attend 2/4 playdays!!  What great odds to win a buckle!!!   Thank you Chris Minkler, Wendy Fedde and Malia Frey for donating their winnings back to the club.  Very generous of you folks.

Robbie Potter Clinic:   Thank you Liz Kehoe for hosting this great clinic and for Lone Oak Equestrian Center for providing the fantastic facilities.  So much learning, practicing and putting it all together!

3rd Annual Preservations Awards Night:  Thank you Rachael, your marketing and public relations is greatly appreciated.

The Membership Survey:

We are SO excited for the year ahead. To make it as rewarding as possible, we want your feedback on any revisions or additions to the current offerings so our club feels more like family and a true horse community. Because we really want to know your thoughts, we are giving an incentive to our members to complete the survey by June 4, 2024.  Folks who respond (and include their names) are put into a drawing for a free dinner at a monthly general meeting. We will give out (3) three free dinners tickets. The drawing will be at the June Meeting. Respond for a chance to win!

If you haven't done so already, please take a moment to participate in the 2024 Membership Survey.  Click on the link below to complete the survey. Entering your personal contact information is optional, but appreciated for followup on any ideas or suggestions.

Check out the fabulous property for sale by our honorary member's Keith & Courtney Adamo.  Amazing country living, room for horses. Ride, bike, and hike from your front door to Rancho Canada Del Oro and Calero Park.  Beautiful year-round creek in your back yard under the redwood trees.  This is a dream house, where you can relax away from the crazy hussle and bustle - and still be close to Almaden Valley.  Ideal for someone who works remotely.   4300 Casa Loma Road (Morgan Hill mailing address - on the boarder of South San Jose).
