President's Message

Dear SCCHA Members,

Happy New Year! At our Installation Dinner last month, I was reminded of just how extraordinary this community is. It’s not just the horses that bring us together—it’s the people. The passion, dedication, and heart each of you brings to our events, programs, and gatherings are what make this association such a vibrant and welcoming space.

This past year has been nothing short of remarkable. We’ve enjoyed lively playdays, inspiring clinics, scenic trail rides, and meaningful outreach in our community. These accomplishments didn’t happen by accident—they’re the result of countless hours of hard work by our members and volunteers. Whether you were behind the scenes organizing, leading an event, or simply showing up to lend your support, thank you for making last year one to remember.

As we look to the future, I want to take a moment to honor those who have served us so well in the past. To our outgoing board members, you have led us with integrity and passion, ensuring that our mission to unite and support equestrians in our community remained strong. Your contributions—whether in decision-making, event planning, or just lending a listening ear—have left a lasting impact on all of us. Please know how deeply grateful we are for your service. You leave behind big boots to fill, and we will carry forward the work you’ve done with pride. Thank you again to our outgoing board members: Jayne Hesley, Suzy Paulazzo, Sharon Pope, and Bill Pope!

I also want to welcome our new board members, Chris Monahan, Wendy Fedde, and Stephanie Barada, who will be joining the existing board as we continue our journey into 2025. To our incoming leaders, we are thrilled to have you stepping into these roles. Your willingness to volunteer your time and energy ensures that the Santa Clara County Horsemen’s Association will not only endure but thrive. As we embrace your fresh ideas and perspectives, I know that together we will take this association to even greater heights.

Looking ahead, I encourage us all to think about how we can grow—not just in membership, but in how we connect with one another. Let’s keep strengthening the ties that bind us as a community. Let’s share the joy of equestrian life with more people, open our trails to new friends, and ensure that the SCCHA remains a welcoming home for all horse lovers. Here’s to the spirit of this association, the majestic horses we cherish, and the wonderful people who make it all possible.

With warm regards,

Tami Moore, President

Christmas Party and Board Installation

What a fun party!  In addition to swearing in the new Board Members, we held a silent auction of items from jewelry to clothing to anything horsey. There was plenty of festive appetizers, dinner, cocktails, and dessert. A big "Thank you" goes to Jennifer for putting it together and to all the volunteers who decorated the hall and did the clean-up effort after the two parties.   It's a nice way to show appreciation to all the volunteers, club members, and Board Members for 2024 as well as to welcome the upcoming 2025 team.

Photos show our amazing framed photo booth, Board swearing-in, Tami with her "gift-to-President" (her very own buckle!) and the beautiful holiday-themed SCCHA Clubhouse.

Hoofbeats Holiday Party and Crafts

What a fun Junior party.  It's one of the favorite events of the year.  We did crafts, made horse cookies, had a potluck and the Juniors had a fun gift exchange.  We need someone to help grow Hoofbeats throughout the year.   Please think about it and give the biggest gift of all to the club and community.  Help grow our youth program.....You don't have to be a Director to help lead in the organization.  It would be great to get more kids (of all ages) coming.

Welcome New Members:

William Douglass III, wife Lydia, and sons William Douglass IV, Jaxson Douglass, and Alexander Douglass.

My grandmother, Lillian Askew Douglass, is a lifetime SCCHA member. She had horses most of her life and always shared her love for them with me growing up.  My family loves horses.  Our two oldest sons take horse riding lessons in Gilroy.  We want to teach our sons the value of hard work and we believe taking care of animals can teach them many good life lessons.  My family is happy to become SCCHA members and continue to teach our sons about horses and give them a traditional western lifestyle.

Mary Billingsley

Previous horse owner.  20+ years ago.   I enjoyed team penning, trail riding.  I was a turn-back rider with Gavilan Cutters in Gilroy.  I love being with horses and like-minded folks.
