President's Message

Dear SCCHA Members,

As we enter November, I’m reminded of the warmth and generosity that define our club and community. This is a special season, a time to focus on giving, gratitude, and coming together with family and friends. I’d like to take a moment to celebrate the spirit that unites us and to share a few ways we can honor it together this month.

A Season of Giving

The holiday season gives us the perfect opportunity to give back to our community, and I am constantly inspired by the kindness and generosity within our club. Whether it's supporting one another at events, volunteering to help with horses and maintaining our facilities, or extending a helping hand when someone is in need, the Santa Clara County Horsemen’s Association truly embodies the spirit of giving. Please reach out to any of our board members to learn about how you can get more involved and volunteer your time to serving our club and its members.

Family, Friendship, and Thanksgiving Dinner – November 15

November is all about celebrating with family and friends, and what better way to do that than with a Thanksgiving Dinner! Join us on November 15 as the SCCHA Board Members host a cozy, festive Thanksgiving meal for our club members and guests. This annual tradition is a time to reflect, give thanks, and enjoy the company of our club family. We hope to see you there!

Looking Ahead to Our Holiday Installation Dinner – December 14

Just around the corner is our Holiday Installation Dinner on December 14. This catered event is a highlight of the year, bringing members together to celebrate the holiday season, thank our outgoing board members, and welcome our incoming board members. Tickets must be purchased in advance, and more details on pricing and reservations will be coming out soon. Mark your calendars—this is one you won’t want to miss!

Thank You for Being Part of Our Community

Thank you all for your commitment, kindness, and spirit. It’s because of each of you that our association is such a warm and welcoming place. As we embrace this season of gratitude, know that every contribution you make strengthens our club and enriches our community.

Wishing you a wonderful November filled with joy, family, and the spirit of giving.

With warm regards,

Tami Moore, President

Board Nominations & Election

Nominations for the 2025 Board are open until the 2nd week of November.  Please send nominations to lindabcarcione@gmail.com.  We will contact the nominee to validate their acceptance before the election.  If there is no 'Competition' for the election, there will be a 'White Ballot' and no need for a formal election.  Should there be more than one person running for an officer position and/or more than three additional people running for a Director position, then there will be an election held at the General Meeting November 15.

We thank the 2024 Board for their dedication to the club, members, and community.   We especially want to thank Bill Pope, Sharon Pope, Suzy Paulazzo, and Jayne Hesley as they leave the Board.  We know they will continue to support the club with their volunteer work.   The Sergeant-at-Arms and three Director positions are open.   A Director can choose their area of expertise to help or just give their advice, leadership, and vote to support the club's future initiatives/direction.   The Board meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month 7:00pm-9:00pm.

There are also specific areas where we need help but you don't have to be a Director to take on one of these important roles.  We need help with the:
Junior Program - planning events for the young members of our club. You would be recruiting a few volunteers for the events you organize and would be rewarded by engaging the youth to actively continue to participate in the SCCHA into adulthood.

Newsletter - Once a month, use our website template to lay out any submissions for events past and present and include photos that you or others supply. Exercise your creativity to make the publication your own!
Grounds - organize mowing, weed-whacking, and generally keeping our property in order, especially leading up to shows or events. Work with Sandie on arranging repairs needed to the clubhouse as they come up. There is a cool tractor involved with Grounds.  If you are retired and want to tool around mowing at your leisure, we have the property and the tools.

Currently, the Board members have been taking on many jobs/roles and we really need our members to consider a Board position or an ongoing volunteer commitment.

Fall Festival Open House:   On October 12, we held an Open House to engage our Santa Clara County community and introduce people to the Wonder of Horses. We served hot dogs (and veggie dogs) and corn on the cob for lunch, root beer floats for dessert (so popular!), guided an arts-and-crafts table for kids and adults to create their own horse-themed souvenirs, and entertained with a live country musician. This was in addition to the real stars: the horses. The drill team performed the routine they have been diligently practicing, there were demonstrations of barrel racing, jumping, and gaited vs. non-gaited horse action. There was a "grooming station" for kids and adults to learn about horse care. We also had >16 horses of all different breeds from a mini-horse to a Gypsy Vanner and everything in between for the public to interact with. So many of our members volunteered to make it run smoothly and were acknowledged in an earlier e-mail but should be mentioned here too:

Kathleen, Lori, Valerie, Robyn, Ayla, Marissa, Addy, Sandi, Fran, Gertie, Michelle, Jennifer, Deb, Tami, Danielle, Paul, Art, Wendy, Karen, Yvonne, Todd, Chris, Neil, Seth, Linda, Liz, Jim, Carol, Suzy, Darlene, Laurie, Lucia, Katie, Logan, Gayle, Channing, Elena, Sienna, Olivia, Ava, Briana

General Meeting Annual Chili Cook-off
Both long-time and new members enjoyed tasting and judging 9 different pots of sumptuous chili. This fun event is not to be missed because the competitors really "bring it" and, besides the chili and condiments, there were different varieties of cornbread and desserts. We really appreciate all those who cooked and contributed! It was a tough vote, but only the winners (right) took home some cute gifts (thanks, Yvonne!).
